About
F. H. Rowell (Fionnuala Hanahoe Rowell) is a contemporary visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. She holds a First Class Honours BA in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design (2009). Her work has been commissioned by Dublin City Council and Mayo County Council, and she was selected for the Dublin City Council Artists’ Panel (2009–2012). She has exhibited in EVA International and in curated exhibitions. Her work is held in numerous private collections and she is a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland.
Working across painting, moving image, sound, artificial intelligence, sculpture, and emerging technologies, her practice centres on moments of sustained attention — instances in which the familiar is encountered more fully. Drawing from the natural world, everyday experience, and processes of making, her work focuses on subtle movements, material behaviours, and fleeting occurrences that often go unnoticed. Through amplification, repetition, translation, and duration, these processes are brought into sharper perceptual focus.
Rather than treating technology as separate from human experience, the work investigates how deep engagement with process — even through advanced technologies such as AI — can reconnect us to forms of presence, attention, and feeling that contemporary life often fragments. Contrasting mediums are frequently brought into dialogue within her work to test whether certain perceptual or emotional conditions can persist across radically different material states.
The resulting works move between the natural and the artificial, the physical and immaterial, the handmade and computational. Across these oppositions, the practice asks what forms of connection, attention, and shared experience remain possible beyond medium itself.
